What Therapy Gets Wrong About Men
If therapy actually listened to men, more men would show up.
Many men know they need to talk to someone, but they feel shut out by a mental health field that often does not speak their language. You want straightforward help. You want a therapist who respects responsibility, faith, family, and the pressure to perform. You want direction, not circles.
Common Man Therapy gives you a private space where you can speak freely, without censoring yourself or worrying about saying the wrong thing. Here, you get clarity, structure, and a path forward.
I provide individual therapy for men who are dealing with stress, frustration, burnout, anger, relationship strain, or a loss of direction. My style is direct and action focused. I use proven methods like CBT and motivational interviewing along with practical guidance that strengthens self-leadership.
Sessions help you build clarity, problem solving skills, steady discipline, and the habits that move your life forward. You will leave each session knowing what you are working on and why it matters.
When appropriate, we may also look at routine, sleep, health habits, and daily structure, since these often support a man’s mental performance. This is always optional and always centered on your goals.
Common Man Therapy is for men who:
Feel overwhelmed, unfocused, or stuck
Are high functioning on the outside but frustrated inside
Have lost their edge or sense of purpose
Want clear goals, structure, and honest feedback
Carry the weight of providing and protecting and need a place to unload without judgment
Want a therapist who understands how men think and operate
If this sounds familiar, you are not alone and you are in the right place.
Many men feel uncomfortable in therapy because the setting does not match the way they think or communicate. You may feel pressured to talk in circles, share more than you want, or speak in a language that does not feel natural.
My practice is built differently.
Men work with me because:
You can speak freely and openly without censoring yourself
You get clarity instead of confusion
You get direction instead of vague exploration
You get tools you can actually use outside the session
You get a therapist who respects responsibility, faith, family, and discipline
You get someone who has lived life, not just studied it
If you want a place where you can be honest, direct, and focused on results, you will fit well here.

Ever notice how logging onto social media feels like stepping into a fight you didn’t sign up for? That is not an accident. It is the algorithm doing exactly what it was built to do: keep you engaged, even if it means keeping you angry.

A friend recently told me that one of our oldest friends had vanished. No argument, no warning, just an unfollow, an unfriend, and radio silence. The only “offense”? She had voted the wrong way.

As fall settles in and daylight hours get shorter, many people feel a shift in mood, energy, and motivation. That does not always mean something is wrong. Sometimes it is simply your body adjusting to the rhythm of the season. Other times, the changes are more intense, lasting, and disruptive, which can point toward Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

Let me be blunt. If you’re waiting for life to get easier, you’re wasting time. Struggle isn’t a glitch in the system. It is the system. And the sooner you stop treating discomfort like a warning sign and start treating it like a training ground, the faster you’ll stop spinning your wheels. In my therapy practice, I don’t sugarcoat reality. I don’t hand out participation trophies for showing up to your own life. I work with high-functioning, burned-out men and women who are tired of avoiding the hard stuff and ready to use it. Because the truth is, most of what’s breaking you isn’t the pain itself. It’s your belief that pain means you’re broken.

Every September, therapists see a surge in new appointments. Phones start ringing, email inquiries climb, and calendars that felt manageable in July suddenly feel jammed. This is not a coincidence. After the freedom of summer, reality comes rushing back, and many people realize they are not as steady as they thought.

We live in a culture that promises quick fixes. With a tap on your phone, you can track your mood, log your thoughts, or follow an online course that promises to “rewire your brain.” With artificial intelligence, you don’t even need another human being involved—you can type your struggles into a chat box and get a comforting response without ever exposing your real self. On the surface, it sounds great: affordable, convenient, and—most importantly for many—anonymous. No awkward silences, no difficult truths, no risk of judgment.

Let’s get something straight: Men aren’t broken. They’re boxed in.

Let’s get one thing straight: kids are not born with an innate knowledge of what’s best for them. They are born with needs, instincts, and impulses. It’s your job to help them shape those into something functional and healthy. But that job becomes impossible when you, the adult, are too afraid to do the hard part of parenting—saying no.

Let’s get one thing straight.
I'm a husband, a father, and a veteran—and those roles shape everything I do, including how I show up as a therapist. My approach is straightforward, practical, and rooted in common sense. I don’t rely on trendy buzzwords or “woke” ideology. I offer real talk, real strategies, and real results. You won’t find awkward exercises, empty affirmations, or judgment here—just honest conversations and grounded support that actually helps you move forward. If you’re tired of therapy that feels out of touch or overly complicated, you’re in the right place.
