Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer an initial consultation?
Yes. I provide a free 15-minute consultation so you can see if Common Man Therapy is a fit. Most people find that once they’ve had a chance to talk with me, they feel comfortable moving forward. I live and work here in Vermont, and my approach is straightforward, results-driven, and grounded in real life.
What does a typical session look like?
Sessions are direct and practical. I focus on what’s going on in your life, what you want to change, and strategies that actually work. I use proven methods like CBT, motivational coaching, and positive psychology. I don’t do endless meditation, role playing, or constant “how does that make you feel?” routines. I also don’t lean on recycled tools like mindfulness scripts, journaling homework, or endless deep-breathing exercises. Many clients come to me after being frustrated with those gimmicks and are relieved to find a more traditional, common-sense approach.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes. I provide secure, HIPAA-compliant telehealth sessions for clients across Vermont. Whether you’re in Burlington, Rutland, St. Albans, or a rural town, you can connect with me privately from your home, office, or truck at lunch break—as long as it’s a private space.
How long are sessions?
Standard sessions are 50 minutes. For longstanding clients who don’t need the full hour, I also offer shorter 30-minute sessions at a reduced rate. Both formats are focused, efficient, and built to respect your time.
What is your cancellation policy?
I ask for at least 12 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Missed sessions or late cancellations may be billed at the full rate. This policy helps me respect the time I set aside for each client.
Is therapy private?
Yes. Everything you share is confidential and protected by law, with only a few exceptions for safety concerns. Your sessions are private and not influenced by employers, insurance companies, or outside agendas.
Do you see clients outside of Vermont?
At this time, I am licensed to work with clients who are physically located in Vermont during sessions.
Is therapy only for men?
No. While I specialize in working with men, especially those who feel ignored or talked down to by modern therapy, I also work with women who want a straightforward, practical approach. My focus is on people who are fed up with progressive therapy trends and want a therapist who speaks plainly and respects traditional values.
What makes Common Man Therapy different?
Common Man Therapy is based in Vermont and built for people who value honesty, responsibility, and action. You won’t find political agendas, therapy trends, or feel-good clichés here. What you will find is a therapist who takes you seriously, listens directly, and gives you practical tools to protect, provide, and endure.
